My experiments with past life regression - 02/12/2012

Past life regression has been my area of research for a long long time and I am someone who frankly believes that our actions in this life are hugely influenced by what we did (or were) in our past lives. I am open to criticism, but, well that's what my belief is. Few years back I procured media files of renowned past life hypnotherapist Dick Sutphen and began my work on knowing myself better - why I do what I do... I believed some of the behavioral answers could be hidden in how we spent our life in the past. I had been trying self hypnosis for a long long time, but although I had minuscule visions of places, events... they never really took concrete shape, until today when I was hell bent on doing it and it seems to me, I was successful.

I am recording all of these in detail in my blog, not for people to read (although I'll appreciate you reading and commenting on it), but rather for my own records which I could refer to in future.

As the self hypnotherapy session began, it was a very very slow process. Slowly my body went completely numb and I was unable to even move a single finger unless instructed by Mr Sutphen. Gradually I entered into an altered state of consciousness where I could hear each clock tick in my room, but I did not have the capability to even scratch my back.

Here is the vision I had.

I found myself to be a girl of 15 years around the year 1927. The place appeared to be somewhere in Bengal, India. As far my dress was concerned, it was a simple saree worn in traditional bengali way as in earlier days. I was bare-footed. The location appeared to be a vast field, lots of greenery and trees.

When I scanned my life for important events, I found it difficult to find any, probably as I had been a simple bengali house wife in those days. The only vision I had was that of my husband standing alongside me in front of a mirror and I was beautifully dressed up in a saree and ornaments. He appeared to be a zamindar or someone from the royal family.

Upon further scanning my life, I found myself to be a widow, seemed a lonely elderly woman with white saree. It seemed that her last stage of life was spent in spiritual thoughts. She did not appear frail, rather a bit on the plump side.

Well, that's all I saw.

I would leave it to you to believe this or not to believe this.

As far as I am concerned, I have never ever dreamt of anything similar or even close, so this was a new experience for me. I shall continue researching on this subject as there are many questions which need answers. I am not sure if this particular life was the immediate past life before my present life or I had an intermediate life in between.

Also, I need to validate whether this vision repeats itself or if I am able to get more details out of it.

In closing this article, let me tell you, I am a man of flesh and blood in this life and neither I behave like a woman, nor I am a gay. So, please do not make fun of me only coz I saw myself as a woman in an earlier life.

Criticism, comments, questions, suggestions... all welcome.

Our past lives?

Hello friends,

Today again I felt the urge to jot down my thoughts on my blog. First of all, let me tell you that I updated my story "The Crush" (a romantic fiction) with two new parts. You can read it here. Please note that I am not an established author of stories like few of my blogger friends, rather it's a humble try from my end at writing something new.

Next, I thought about reincarnation again. I found quite a few web resources this time around and went through them in an urge to know more about it! The summary of what I found out is:
Reincarnation is an established phenomena. There are much more evidences in favor of it than I previously thought. As the soul leaves a body forever after death, it either wanders in subtle astral form or looks to reincarnate. Most of the times, when we are born, we do not have the capability to speak or denote our thoughts through gestures. Even if we do, it would be considered as a baby's natural playfulness. Whereas, it seems we are able to remember whatever little possible about our past lives during those formative years. As we grow old , we forget those incidents from the past and our new life memories get etched. It is then that we learn to speak. So, most of us have no clue what had been our deeds in our previous human form. It is almost like a dream. How many times have you dreamt and later on forgotten about it? "Yeah I dreamt about a whale, umm but don't remember exactly what it was..." It is almost like that! There comes the question of memorable death, as I had told in one of my earlier posts. If and only if you have had a memorable death, you are able to remember details of it.

Then there comes the question of past life regression techniques. These techniques typically help you go through your past lives as you attain a super conscious state. I found one here which is a self regression technique. The technique seemed to be pretty similar to a self hypnotherapy session. The body is relaxed and we tend to forget who we are in this life. It is in this super relaxed mode that there is a possibility of us remembering who we had been.
I also came across several startling theories put forward in this regard:

  1. There is life between lives in the sense that after the soul leaves a body, before taking a new human form, it stays somewhere.
  2. A soul can exist in two different bodies at the same time!
  3. As people carry the pain suffered earlier in current life to their late years, they also carry unresolved pain from one life to another which create blocks in proper functioning in current life. Past life healing is said to rectify it!
Skeptics do not believe in these. I met a man few months back who said souls do not exist. Well, it depends on what you believe or do not believe. But truth is always the truth. Otherwise how could one possibly explain the phenomena described in my earlier posts on reincarnation? I wonder what I had been in my earlier life! Will the question stay unanswered? Time will tell!

Reincarnation

I have several confusions:

* Are people reincarnated?

* If it is so, why do we not remember it?

* It is true that many people do remember. But how?

Well, sceptics do not believe in reincarnation. It is believed to be the figment of imagination of an idle fertile mind. But over the years, there have been several reports of people being able to accurately remember what had been their previous life like!

The main objections against the reincarnation theory are:

1) If we have indeed reincarnated, why don't we remember it?

2) What is it that transpires after death, since the body is already gone!

3) Most importantly, what is the proof?

The possible explanations are:

1) Only those people who have had memorable deaths remember.

2) The soul is never destroyed and it transpires through lives.

3) Proofs are there. Otherwise how can you explain a little 3 year old baby blurting out how she had been brutally burnt alive with details which were later validated by her relatives (from previous life)?

Still there are loopholes, there are lakhs who have 'memorable' deaths each year, but how many people can you point out who have successfully remembered? Do you remember? Do I remember? But it is a belief! Take it or leave it!

Again, it is a well known fact that the world population is increasing astronomically. If everyone (or most of us) have reincarnated, how is it increasing? It should have remained stable! But this statement can somewhat be nullified by point number 1 above.

However, the concept is not new. There have already been the Jataka tales from Buddhism, where Gautam Buddha had talked about all of his previous lives and how he got into his present life. Other religions also believe in this concept and the variations are minor.
In this connection, let me tell you that the wife of a famous hot shot of Kolkata was murdered brutally by her in-laws. The man is still alive and kicking, as there were not enough proofs available to nail him. And you won't believe, a baby was born few years down the line, who was able to give a line by line account of how everything had occurred, how she suffered, how she had been strangled, how she had been killed! But there were no takers for it. Come on, how can you believe what a 3 and half year old baby has to say!
Again, there was this incident of a child prodigy who gave her board exams while being only 10 years old! The girl did not fare well in the exams, but she sat for it, which was a miracle in itself and no, she had not needed to study for it!
I came across this link. Everything did not seem perfectly logical to me there, but have a look at it. You will find it interesting!
Also, I came across this scholarly article which gives a case by case detailed account of Shanti devi and several other intriguing cases.

But, it does not seem to me that enough research is currently on in this field, at least the world wide web did not offer much, but you bet, this is as interesting as it can get! If I am able to get hold of some more resources, I would post.

Until then, ciao!
